LAKE MBURU - The Home of Elands

Safari Highlights: Game viewing, Birding,  Nature walks, Ishenyi village cultural exposure and Boat Cruise at Lake Mburo National Park.This attractive park of rolling hills and open grassy valleys interspers ed with thickets woodlands and rich wetlands is the only place in Uganda where Impala still occur and is the best place to see large herds of Elands (African’s largest Antelopes). Other Antelopes species that might be sighted in the park includes Topi, Bushbucks, Sitatunga, Common Duika, Klipspringer, Oribi, Defassa Waterbuck, and Bohor Beebuck. It is one of the only two of Ugandan National Parks where Burchell’s Zebra still occurs and where a guided game walk is possible. 

Day 1: Arrival  

On arrival our representative meets you at Entebbe International Airport and transfer you to Kampala for your dinner and overnight at a hotel of your choice(budget or luxury).

Day 2: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park (3 – 4 hours)

After an early breakfast you will be picked and driven to Lake Mburo National Park arriving in time for lunch. You will have a brief stop-over at the Equator, en route where you will be able to take photographs, and pick up some souvenirs. Check-in, will be at the hotel of your choice (budget or luxury).

In the afternoon, you will go on a boat trip on the lake; rich with a diversity of animals such as hippos and crocodiles and bird species such as Pelicans, Black Crake, Heron, Cormorant and Fish Eagle which can only be viewed clearly on a boat trip. You will then return to your lodge for dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Day 3: Explore Lake Mburo National Park

You will wake up early with a snack then set-off on a Sunrise game drive at the park where you can expect to see a variety of wildlife such as zebras, monkey, Impala, waterbucks, elands, buffaloes, Hippos, Impalas, topi, Bohor reedbuck, sitatunga antelope, klipspringer, vervet monkey, olive baboon, side-striped Jackal, spotted-hyena, leopard, white-tailed mongoose. After the game drive you will return to the lodge for a full breakfast after which you will relax and enjoy the lodge’s facilities until lunch time.

After lunch you have options to either go horseriding around the park, or go for a Nature walk in the Rubanga Forest. This forest offers an excellent habitat for birds therefore a very attractive place for bird watching with over 40 bird species recorded. Time allowing you would participate in sports fishing at Lake Mburo, about six species of fish are found on the Lake, the common ones being Tilapia (Oreoclcroomisleacosti), lung fish, mud fish, Haplochromes.

Day 4:  Nshenyi Tour (Full Day)

This culture rotates around cattle, the keeping, grazing and the benefits. Today’s highlights involve witnessing how milk is extracted from the udders of the cows, and also we can try it ourselves, then have a local breakfast and see how the remaining milk is treated to become ghee, then also to see is how the Bahima community set up their homesteads, take a village walk after lunch and if it’s a market day you will also visit the market, or a local school.

You will then return to your ‘local home’ for dinner and overnight. Late evening entertainment by the local community which is full of traditional songs, drums and dances can be arranged.

Day 5: To Kampala

This day marks the end of your safari, after breakfast you checkout then drive back to Kampala, arriving in the afternoon, lunch en route. Dinner and overnight at the hotel of your choice (budget or luxury)
