The Magical Experience of the Murchsion Falls

Safari Highlights:This safari takes you to the renowned Murchison Falls, Uganda’s spectacular heritage, proceeding to some of unique geographical gifting along the Albertine Rift Valley, with breathtaking scenic allure, and landscapes. If you’d like to be in tune with nature, you can take nature walks where you will experience the quietness of the wilderness and encounter some wildlife, a variety of birds and a rich expansive flora. A guided nature walk in the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary offers great birding opportunities and primate viewing. You will be able to see over 137 bird species and primates like Bush babies and colobus monkeys. Another fascinating experience is that of the Sempaya Hot Springs, and the 30 minute trail through beautiful palm forest to the inner hot spring. The outer spring is dominated by a boiling geyser (103°C) which spurts 2Metre high. And here you can participate in the rare experience of boiling eggs in the bubbling pools created by this hot water.

Itinerary 

Day 1: ARRIVAL

You will be met and welcomed on arrival at Entebbe Airport by our company representative and transferred to your accommodation in Kampala (budget or luxury). After check-in you will be briefed on your safari details and left to relax and take the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2: KAMPALA - MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

Today we will depart for the most beautiful protected area in Uganda: Murchison Falls National Park. We shall arrive in the national park in the afternoon, lunch and interesting stopovers en route. Upon arrival we will go straight to visit the magnificent ‘top-of-the-falls’ where you can marvel at the mighty Nile; squeezing itself in a 7 meter gorge before tumbling 40 meters down! From here we will proceed for check-in at the accommodation facility of your choice (budget or luxury), where you will have dinner and overnight.

Day 3: MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

After an early breakfast we start the day with a game drive on the northern bank of the Nile, with high chances of seeing giraffes, elephants, lions, hartebeest and different species of birds. After this we return to the hotel/camp for relaxation till lunch.  In the afternoon the safari will be continued with a boat cruise on the river Nile for game viewing at close quarters. The boat stops at the bottom of the falls just meters away from the Devil’s caldron; one can see the smoky falls at very close range. You may take a challenging walk to the top of the falls, or simply take photos from the comfort of your boat before returning to the hotel/camp for overnight.

Day 4: MURCHISON FALLS - KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK

We depart Murchison Falls and head towards Fort Portal. This long journey will be rewarded with stunning views as you pass small villages and local markets. Fort Portal rests in the shadow of the fabled “Mountains of the Moon” and is famous for the many tea plantations. From this lovely town we will continue to the dense forest of Kibale National Park, arriving in the evening. Check-in dinner and overnight at the accommodation facility of your choice (budget or luxury).

Day 5: KIBALE FOREST & BIGODI SWAMP (FULL DAY)

Today the forest opens its door for a sensational chimp tracking. Kibale Forest is reputed for having the greatest variety and high concentration of primates in East Africa. Enjoy a guided nature walk in the tropical rainforest in search of the wild chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkey and many others. After a hearty lunch we transfer to the Bigodi Swamp for another; totally different nature walks. The Bigodi Swamp walk is an initiative of the local community and is known for its rich diversity of birds and primates. Later return to your hotel/lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 6: CRATER LAKES

Have a calm breakfast before we head off for an exploration of the crater lakes. Enjoy the beauty of the numerous small lakes, surrounded by gentle hills, and the stunning views. Take a hike at Lake Nkuruba to encounter different species of primates and birds, and visit the Mahoma Falls. Meet the local people as you walk through their villages, learn about the customs of the Batoro tribe and enjoy the panoramic views.

Later return to your hotel for relaxation, meals and overnight.

Day 7: KIBALE FOREST - SEMLIKI NATIONAL PARK

Today you will visit Semliki National Park, for another but different experience! Take a nature walk to the Hot Springs and then later visit the Pygymy village. You will enjoy meeting these people and learning about their culture. Your lunch will be enjoyed as picnic and then in the late afteroon we shall return to Fortportal for overnight at Mountains of the Moon Hotel or accommodation facility of your choice (budget or luxury).

Day 8: TRANSFER FROM FORTPORTAL TO KAMPALA

On this day you will have an option to visit the Karambi tombs (burial sites for the former Toro kings and other royals of the kingdom) after breakfast for a cultural experience. Or you will simply checkout after breakfast and we transfer to Kampala with interesting stopovers, plus lunch en route and arriving in the evening. Check-in, dinner and overnight at the accommodation facility of your choice (budget or luxury)
